I have been working in the fine jewelry and diamond trade for 18 years alongside my father, Oscar, who has worked with the finest manufacturers, craftsmen, and jewelers in New York for over 55 years.
During a media business conference in Ketchum, Idaho, I met Philip Rosedale, the founder of Second Life®, the online 3-D virtual world where residents create and participate in a limitless universe.
The symbol of Second Life is the hand with the all-seeing eye, universal symbols that are viewed by many cultures as protective against the evil eye. Since ancient times, civilizations believed that these talismans brought good fortune and deflected evil spirits. I have always collected hamsa's and evil eyes from all over the world and was intrigued by this logo: a company identity that was also a good luck charm!
I had an idea.
I thought it would be great to wear this symbol of Second Life in one's first life, indicating that you are part of this fascinating other world.... your secret society. Wearing the jewelry allows you to extend your community from the virtual to the real, your Second Life to your first life.
I would like to send a special thanks to Philip Rosedale, Jeska Dzwigalski and Catherine Smith for their enthusiasm and support with this project.
The pieces are all hand finished and made in New York City. Please look out for further editions that will have variations such as precious gems set into the charms. I change the leather cords and sometimes wear three on a choker, or several of different sizes and colors on a long silver chain.
I would love to hear about how you wear yours. Please send me your comments and images or photos!
Thanks for your time and attention. Enjoy!
